Counter-Argument
The counter-argument to paying high profiled student athletes is simple. It's to just not pay them and continue to stay on the path the NCAA is already on right now that limits the athletes with any outside benefits other than a scholarship. The side that believes that student athletes should not be paid strongly believes that students are students first and athletes second. It's perfectly logical that people believe this. This side of the argument believes that the focus of the athletes being at school is their academics and paying them would deter their ability to learn in a way and would give them an unfair advantage over students who don't participate in a sport. Another argument that this side brings to this topic is that college athletes are nothing more than just amateurs who compete in the sport they love. They want to make sure that there is a big gap between the professional and collegiate level.
